WORKSHOP: Movement on Screen
Facilitated by Nina Erasmus
It seems like with most music videos and dance films the videographers and choreographers are thrown together for projects without much understanding about one another’s industry.
This day and a half workshop creates space for understanding and experimentation: Where both parties can share their knowledge and experiences and finally, make a short dance film together!
Purpose of this workshop is for both parties to gain a deeper understanding about the videographer/choreographers way of working and industry. Ultimately connecting these two industries together in some way for future collaborations.
This workshop is for all movers and all camera holders (aspiring and professional). It’s best to keep the workshop open for professional and aspiring persons. I have noticed that even the most experienced videographers still find it difficult to capture movement on screen.
What to expect from this workshop:
The workshop is structured in two parts -- theoretical and practical. For the theoretical there will be speakers who will touch on choreography, film jargon, set etiquette, how to make a budget dance film, etc. But we won’t sit too long. The practical part will take up most of the allocated time. With drama based following/leading exersices and finding the “heart” of the movement so to speak. At the end of the day we need to do more than talk. I will challenge the participants to make a short form dance film in groups in four hours. Conceptualizing, shooting and editing. Let’s play and make!
