Stand-up 4 Comedy is the story of 4 young aspiring comedians, from diverse backgrounds, who embark on a journey in ‘making it’ in the entertainment industry and the arts.

The show has successfully featured for 2 consecutive years (2014 & 2015) on the National Arts Festival Fringe in Grahamstown. In 2015 it was one of the best ensemble comedy shows at the festival and had one of its members, Mo Mothebe, selected to receive a Standard Bank Ovation award for his role in the show.

The show has now been revamped from solely a Stand-Up Comedy piece, to a more theatrical piece with a mix of Stand-up Comedy.

Festival Review 2014:
“Locally flavoured comedy from four comedian’s observations of everyday South Africa. Everyone living in this country will be able to relate to their experiences. Four comedians from four different perspectives equals four times the fun” – Cue Newspaper

Festival Review 2015:
“Four bright, young “up and coming” stand-up comics bring us their unique take on the world. A fresh set of faces and styles to wow the crowds, and it was great to see their first show packed. A nice variety of laughs, I enjoyed this one!” – Cue Newspaper

The show continues to grow and transform to further provide not only the best entertainment, but also serving as a reference point for other aspiring young comedians and artists, that Comedy and the arts in South Africa is alive and well and able to overcome its adverse circumstances.
It is no secret that the South African economy and governance is currently in an unfavourable state. Comedians and artists alike now face strong opposition in making it and sustaining a living through the Arts. Today talented young individuals are forced to take on jobs within the corporate sphere, often ending up working in miserable working environments, such as Call Centres, restaurants and any other job which “makes money”.

Stand-up 4 Comedy as a performance and as an ideal is the resilience of these comedians, and artists in the broader sphere, to stand up for their craft, and persevere in the promotion and sustenance of the arts.
