The Train can be viewed as an Absurd Theatre Drama with a primary focus revolving around power-play between three male figures, due to their differences in age. Despite the desperation as well as frustrating need to arrive at their final destinations, the characters baffle to understand how time works. Each character experiences a deeper sense of confusion by trying to restructure an imaginative puzzle they believe to be their obstruction, In their collaborative attempt to occupy their consciousness by discussing multiple subjects, various questions and arguments around human existence arise and the characters begin to hallucinate about a moving ghost train leaving them on an abandoned train station. The Train serves to instruct one about the power dynamics revolving around age and time. The rationale of the staging is to take a dedicated look at this Absurd (but dramatic) spectacle to see if we cannot uncover anything about the mechanics of power, age and communication in the contemporary South Africa. The production explores complex and myriad issues of different racial characters as experienced in the so-called post-apartheid South Africa.
