NDIKHO
Ubukho Productions & POPArt Theatre present Ndikho after successful runs at the UJ Arts Festival, the Wits Theatre and the Joburg Theatre.
Ndikho is a theatre production written by Sanelisiwe Yekani and directed by Sinenhlanhla Q. Zwane. This allegory presents a world known as Ubukho-Ville; a not-so-fictional country which reflects an era of endangered women. Ubukho-Ville is covered with a dark cloud and cursed with marching men who chant funeral hymns. The united fury that these endangered women feel gives birth to the spirit of Mvundla. Mvundla arrives as the carrier of news and the alchemist.
Ndikho aims to mirror the evolution of South African women and question the injustices cast upon black, female bodies. The antics of female representation opens a window into the femicide culture that has plagued South Africa. Several questions are raised which are at the core of the piece: When do we say is enough is enough, and how do we demand room in spaces?
Ndikho returns to the POPArt Theatre.
