Single Minded
Part of the POPUpstairs season 2016/ 2017 supported by the National Arts Council of Southern Africa.
The filthy mind behind the cult-hit Dirty Words is back at it again with a sizzling new show. Mixing comedy and raunch with a dazzling disregard for politeness and moral hygiene, Jon Keevy serves up six scenes skewering sex and love. Mostly sex. Whether it's bachelorette parties, misleading dating profiles, or just good old fashioned homicide – Kat and Kiro have it uncovered.
Audiences at Alexander Bar’s Upstairs Theatre:
“Sharp, witty writing. Really fantastic performances by two of my favourite actors”
“Jon Keevy's script was brilliantly sharp and witty, and Kiroshan Naidoo & Kathleen Stephens amazing in their multiple roles. Delivery was perfectly timed and the body language pure genius. Side-splittingly funny!”
“What a fabulous way to end 2016. Love the script and the performances of Kiroshan Naidoo & Kathleen Stephens - wonderful. Yes, we did laugh out loud, we giggled, we grinned broadly - would so see this again! And two more actors to follow. I want to see every production. Exciting times. Fun, funny, fast, frothy, fabulous!”
“Plenty of zest, enthusiasm and panache. The performers are GREAT!”
Biographies:
Jon Keevy is a wild card, a maverick, a madman. Or at least he wants you to think that. To be entirely honest you wouldn’t look at this professional writer and guess at the joyful perversity he’s willing to put his characters through. In fact you might have heard his name in connection with serious plays like Every Beautiful Thing (dir. Khutjo Bakunzi Green, 2016), or respectable plays for young audiences like Get Kraken! (dir. Kim Kerfoot, 2014). Let us reassure you though that Jon Keevy is not in the least bit respectable himself.
Kiroshan Naidoo graduated from UCT in 2015 and has performed in productions like People Are Living There (dir. Blythe Stuart Linger and Kathleen Stephens, 2015) and Reparations (dir. Ameera Conrad, 2016). His versatility has garnered attention and in 2017 he’ll be on set with Hollywood people. He insisted we add that to his bio.
Kathleen Stephens trained as a theatre maker at UCT, graduating in 2014. Her comedic timing and physical presence caught audience attention in UHM (dir. Koleka Putuma) and I Love You Sally Field (dir. Wessel Pretorius). Her upcoming projects are ‘lit’(her words).
