INGRID is a tribute production, celebrating the life and work of acclaimed poet Ingrid Jonker. The piece serves as a visual and physical response to her oeuvre: a reaction to her as provocation. A devised imagistic theatre production drawn from texts such as Ontvlugting, Mamma and Waterval van mos en son.

We look at her through the lens of mother, girlfriend, mistress, lover, daughter and woman unattached. We rediscover youth, loneliness, madness, and depression as we follow the narrative of three women and their relationships with each other. We delve into the tightly controlled household of Helena and her daughter Louisa, and the secrets that are spilled when Louisa befriends a new girl in the neighbourhood, Liesbet. Before these women dissolve we see the extremes that they will go to to protect the ones they love.

Audience Responses

It truly was a beautiful performance delivered by three very talented and strong performers. Every now and then it lacked clarity of intention, and left the audience a bit lost perhaps. But other than that, it was a lovely watch.
