“Who wants to be a f***ing Feminist!?!”

Zama, whose name means “Try”, has tried and tried to join the upsurge of the latest feminist wave. She- a young woman- ideologically understands the reasoning behind the Feminist Theory and the Feminist Movement at large, but she cannot settle herself into the title of being a “feminist”.
Her ancestry tells her that she should be iMbokodo: a rock. Her proverbial mothers fought the good fight and marched to the beat of defiance. They sang the tune you touch a woman and you touch a rock. They suffered, they endured. But she is not.

She tries only once, and if it fails she moves on; at least when it comes to men.
So why should she sing the old songs?

Her genealogy has engrained her with the bones of geology. Zama is a modern day rock. Her surfaces are polished and pristine; her insides are covered with a solid layer of historical preparation. She only bleeds once a month, and coincidentally, that is also her scheduled time for crying.

With a blog called ‘HOW TO RAISE A QUEEN’, she gives the ingredients of what she believes it takes to be a modern day Mbokodo; a rock. And she has many successful followers who show that the proof is in the pudding. Witty, charming and charismatic, she appears to have it all except, she can’t seem to align her life with the Feminist agenda. And she is troubled by not knowing why!

Imbokodo asks: “Who wants to be a f***ing feminist?” in a world that makes it feel like a curse to declare that “I still believe in the equality of women”. It is a fast-paced, brazen, tongue-in-cheek reflection of a young woman in a world full of fractured mirrors… and f-f-f-feminists!
