“Why do I have to represent a whole race when I just want to represent me?”

The Incident is an award-winning play by Joakim Daun that tackles belonging, migration, racism and power through an intimate love story spanning Sweden and Zimbabwe 

How ‘progressive’ are people really, when they’re confronted with difficult choices? How far are people willing to go to understand those people with different cultural and ethnic backgrounds?

The Incident explores the realities of being in an interracial/cultural relationship and living in a different culture, far from family, support, and tradition. It takes a closer at who we allow to belong in our societies and what it means to be an ambitious, non-white woman in a mostly white male dominated society. 

The Incident is coming to PopArt straight from the National Arts Festival’s main stage and is brought to PopArt by a group of South African and international theatre makers. Directed by Elizabeth Zaza Muchemwa and starring award winning actress Mimi Ndiweni and Nikola Ruzicic.

Brilliant acting, thought provoking script. Play has left us discussing and unpacking the topic and material and will continue to do so. What a pity the attendance was not good. This is the stuff that wakes us up, gets us to think and address prejudices ill found. Thank you to all involved for the brilliant piece of work.
