Kate Pinchuck

Creator/Writer/Performer

Kate Pinchuck is an actor, writer and stand-up comedian. She has an Honours degree in Theatre and Performance Studies specialising in Acting, Contemporary Performance and Scriptwriting from Rhodes University (2015). Notable roles include Isabel in Athol Fugard’s My Children! My Africa! at Artscape (directed by Roy Sargeant, 2017, 2018), Hortensio in the critically-acclaimed all-female The Taming of the Shrew at Maynardville (directed by Tara Notcutt, 2018) and SUSANN in the Ovation Award winning Gaslightat the National Arts Festival Fringe (directed by Laine Butler, 2018). Kate has been rising up in the comedy scene in Cape Town and Joburg. She recently taped a line-up comedy special for Mannequin Films, Laugh At First Sight, set to premiere on DSTV Box Office in early 2019.  She was featured in the 2017 Next Generation Showcase at Grand West, was a semi-finalist in the 2017 Savannah Show Us Your Apples competition and performed in the televised 2018 Comics Choice Awards Newcomer Showcase at the Soweto Theatre.

Dara Beth

Director

Dara Beth completed UCT’s Theatre and Performance programme in 2016 (for which she received the class medal for theatre-making, the Ruth Peffer’s Prize and distinctions in Drama). She is one half of the cabaret duo Plumsong, which she has been performing as since 2011 with mom and fellow performer, Sharyn Seidel. Since graduating, Dara has written and performed in Just a Song and a Dance with co-performer Sharyn at the Alexander Bar and National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, and was nominated by Broadway World for “Best New Production”. In 2017, Dara also wrote, directed and produced Nasty Womxn, which played to sold-out houses at the Alexander Bar, and started 2018 by working on Tara Notcutt’s The Taming of the Shrew as Assistant Director. Dara was nominated for “Best New Director” at the 2018 Fleur du Cap Awards. In 2018, Dara – as one-third of The Furies, a womxn-centric artistic co-op – staged a new work, in conjunction with Ameera Conrad, Lolly at the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees which was nominated for a Kanna in the category of “Best Uitkampteater”.

Joshua Biggs

Sound Designer

Joshua Biggs is a Cape Town based composer and sound artist, with recent electroacoustic and chamber work exploring the gestural and affective potential of found sounds. Josh holds a diploma in Chamber Music Performance from the Trio di Trieste Music Conservatory, (Italy, May 2012) and a Bachelors of Music in Composition from Oberlin Conservatory, (USA, May 2017), with works performed by the Formalist Quartet, the Oberlin Sinfonietta and the Oberlin Improvisation New Music Ensemble, among others. Currently, they are engaged in multiple collaborative projects with local visual, video, and new media artists, poets, playwrights and performers.

Doors opened about 15 minutes late. The show was was very well written/crafted, performed (well done Kate!). However, the ending was a bit weak.
