A day starts with a sunrise... the golden happiness of eGongolweni Village illuminates the summer flowing river like the cries of the gods. Nomzamo dances, moves and plays in the dust...up...up the dust fills up until covered. I can’t breathe; I need to move out... help... She cries yet the trees; rocks, birds and rivers do not hear her dances, her singing and her loud laughter anymore. Repeatedly she laments to the people around her... no don’t walk... I can’t, I need to walk, thorny the bushes, risky deep and dark... walking I walk...

In a village in Swaziland, Nomzamo is taken to stay with Gogo at the age of 10 because her parents have finalized divorce papers. She has always loved visiting Gogo during school holidays because here she played with many kids unlike the suburbs where her fun was limited.  Now there is a new tradition of repeated rape. The family decides to silence this tradition because of the shame it would bring to the family.

The journey of silence prompted by norms, shame and disappointments has prevented women from exercising their voices. The secret are kept within our immediate surrounding and disconnects trust within ourselves.

“The three actors are some of the strongest, most inspirational women I have ever had the privilege of watching onstage” - Ashleigh Harvey
