Yellowman
This 2002 Pulitzer Prize finalist for drama is the story of Alma and Eugene, two African Americans trying to navigate their way through life, love, family and identity politics. Alma, being dark skinned, and light skinned Eugene, kindle a friendship from a young age and are seemingly destined to love one another but prejudice leave stumbling blocks on the way. The play deals with ideas of identity, both socially and personally, and explores body image and economic and social growth within the Black community. In this two hander, the actors portray a variety of colourful and broken characters.
Audience Responses
worldclass, outstanding!!!! what a fine performance from both Mathabo and Jacques!!!!
It was very good, kept you engaged from the start. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
I was transported, moved by the play. The two performers are brilliant. Thank you so much. I have seen only quality performances at your theatre. My three guests enjoyed the play deeply too. I would like the names of the performers and any intending future performances of the play. I have literally just sent off an email reflecting the same above. Thank you, Mun-Ying
